Rampur Campus

Chitwan ยท Public, Constituent Campus of Tribhuvan University

Overview

Rampur Campus is a constituent campus of Tribhuvan University (TU) and the first agriculture college in Nepal under the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS). Established in 1972 AD at Jagadamba Bhawan, Pulchowk, Lalitpur, the campus was relocated in 1974 to Rampur, Chitwan, with 110 hectares of land โ€” expanding to 235 hectares by 1978. Its current home is at Khairahani-04, Chitwan, a site declared by TU's Executive Council from the Kankali Community Forest Area.

For decades, Rampur Campus served as the foremost center for agricultural higher education in Nepal, producing graduates who now hold key positions across Nepal's ministries, government departments, I/NGOs, academic institutions, and international organizations. The campus was significantly developed between 1976 and 1992 with financial support from USAID and the World Bank.

Following the establishment of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), the campus went through a period of institutional transition โ€” with programs paused and resources briefly shifted. Following a government-commissioned review, the necessity of maintaining TU's agricultural programs in both Chitwan and Hetauda was reaffirmed, and Rampur Campus was reestablished at its current Khairahani location with the support of Khairahani Municipality.
