Just got your SEE result and wondering which stream you can join in Grade 11? This page gives you the current NEB enrollment criteria โ the minimum GPA and subject grades required for Science, Management, Humanities, and other streams.
NEB Grading Scale โ Quick Reference
Before checking the stream requirements, here is how NEB grades convert to GPA:
| Grade | Marks Range | Grade Point |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 90โ100 | 4.0 |
| A | 80โ89 | 3.6 |
| B+ | 70โ79 | 3.2 |
| B | 60โ69 | 2.8 |
| C+ | 50โ59 | 2.4 |
| C | 40โ49 | 2.0 |
| D+ | 35โ39* | 1.6 (approx) |
| D | 30โ34* | 1.2 (approx) |
| NG (Not Graded) | Below 35 | 0.0 |
*D+ is the minimum passing grade in most subjects. NG means the student did not meet minimum requirements in that subject โ a Grade Increment Exam is required to proceed.
Minimum GPA Required by Stream
1. Science Stream
Minimum overall GPA: 2.0
- C+ (Grade Point 2.4) in Science and Mathematics
- D+ in English, Nepali, and Social Studies
โ ๏ธ NEB minimum vs college minimum are different. NEB sets 2.0 as the floor, but many competitive private science colleges in Kathmandu (Budhanilkantha, St. Xavier’s, Campion, Sifal, etc.) require 2.8โ3.6 GPA or higher for their science stream admission. Meeting the NEB minimum gets you into science โ it does not guarantee admission to a top science college.
2. Management Stream
Minimum overall GPA: 1.6
- D+ in English, Nepali, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
If you want to study Mathematics as a compulsory or optional subject in Management, you need at least C+ in Mathematics in SEE.
3. Humanities Stream
Minimum overall GPA: 1.6
- D+ in English, Nepali, and Social Studies
4. Education Stream
Minimum overall GPA: 1.6
- D+ in English, Nepali, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
- For Teaching Mathematics or Teaching Science subjects: C+ in Mathematics or Science respectively
5. Law Stream
Minimum overall GPA: 1.6
- D+ in English, Nepali, and Social Studies
6. Technical / TSLC Programmes (CTEVT)
Minimum overall GPA: 1.6
- C in Science, Mathematics, and English
- D+ in Social Studies and Nepali
Technical programmes run under CTEVT (Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training) have their own separate admission criteria โ verify directly with the institution.

Important Update โ NEB Subject Flexibility
NEB has moved away from rigid streaming in recent years. Students are now increasingly allowed to choose subject combinations in Grade 11 rather than being locked into a fixed “Science” or “Management” stream. This means a student with 2.0 GPA could potentially take Physics and Accountancy together if their college allows it.
However, individual colleges still apply their own admission criteria and stream structures โ the NEB minimum GPA requirements above are the national floor, not the ceiling each college sets for itself. Always confirm with your specific college what subject combinations they offer and what their own admission requirements are.
What If You Got Below 1.6 GPA?
A GPA below 1.6 does not permanently close the door on Grade 11. NEB conducts a Grade Increment Examination for students who did not meet the minimum threshold. Passing the Grade Increment Exam allows you to qualify for Grade 11 admission. Check the NEB official website at neb.ntc.net.np for the Grade Increment Exam schedule and registration process.
What GPA Do You Need for Medical Entrance (CEE)?
If you’re planning to study MBBS, BDS, or other health sciences in Nepal after Grade 12, you will need to appear for the CEE (Common Entrance Examination) conducted by MEC. The CEE has its own eligibility requirements separate from the Grade 11 stream criteria โ including minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English at Grade 12 level.
