Introduction  

Architecture deals with the look, feel and comfort of the structure. Architect focuses on how to make the maximum use of the available area yet build a comfortable structure. While designing the structures, the societies and environments should also be taken into consideration.

The Bachelor of Architecture teaches students how to design the structure incorporating the lifestyle and culture yet make it look modern and creative. Throughout the program, students learn about the materials used while constructing the structures, the process of construction and focus on artistic sides as well.

The curriculum covers subjects such as building sciences, architectural drawing and graphics, design studio, history of architecture, communication skills, design of steel, masonry & timber structure, landscape design, design of RCC structures, interior design, construction management, entrepreneurship, professional ethics, etc.

The Bachelor of Architecture program arms students with the skills that fulfill the demand of the industry including the knowledge of the designing, social responsibility and architectural history. The major objective of the program is to produce competent and responsible architect. In order to fulfill these objectives, the program:

Cost of Study

One of the major concerns of the students before joining the program is the cost of the program and the value you get in return. Well, students willing to pursue the Bachelor of Architecture program should not worry about the tuition fee because the values you get from the program exceed the cost it charge. Most of the universities offering this program in Nepal have set the cost reasonably. The Kathmandu university charges NRs. 7,50,000, Pokhara University charges NRs. 200,000 to NRs. 300,000 and the Tribhuvan University charges  NRs. 2,23,520 for the program. However the private colleges charge little high, they may charge around NRs 600,000 to NRs.12,00,000 depending upon the facilities and infrastructure they provide to their students.

Duration of Course                         

The Bachelor of Architecture is an undergraduate degree awarded for the course that last for five years. The program consists of ten semesters and 185 credit hours.

Career Prospect in Nepal

The Bachelor of Architecture degree holders have a lot of option when it come to chose a career. They can work as interior and spatial designer, architectural technologist, architect, structural engineer, landscape architect, construction manager, tower planner, production designer, planning and development surveyor, commercial/residential surveyor. The BArch grads works in housing associations, supermarkets, teaching institutes, etc.

Eligibility

Candidates willing to join the Bachelor of Architecture program should have completed intermediate level in science faculty. S/he should have studied and passed mathematics. S/he should have secured at least 45% in +2. Applicant should take the entrance examination held by the concerned university or college and pass in order to get the admission.

Scholarship

Kathmandu University offers scholarship for both meritorious and needy students as per the university’s rule. Students can apply for the scholarship immediately after admitting to the program.

Pokhara University: College affiliated to pokhara University should award scholarship to 10% of approved students and constituent colleges should award scholarship to 20% of approved students.  Scholarship is divided into two category: open and reservation. Any students can apply for the open scholarship whereas women, differently able, dalits and indigenous groups can apply for the reservation scholarship.
