Bachelor of Social Works (BA BSW)
BSW, known as Bachelor of Social Work, is another upgrowing programme offered by Tribhuvan University. It is a 36 months (3 years) annual course. Social work means the way of helping people of community or people of society to upgrade their living standard by maintaining self-discipline and respect for others. Social work education is an academic discipline that promotes social changes and development in a positive way. It is mainly concerned with the changing of lifestyle and daily habits of the people by growing awareness among them. This brings positive changes in the society along with human behavioural and understanding. BSW is the only course which produces professional enthusiasts to serve for social equity.

The estimated cost of this course is from 4 lakhs to 6 lakhs but it varies from college to college. However, the total cost expense may differ depending on the resources and services given by the institutions. Thus, it is better to visit the respective college and institutions offering BSW program for the exact detail about fee structure and the detail of the course study.
A student who is ready to join the course should have all the required documents. He or she will need a complete and signed application form along with application charge (may vary depending on the college). Provisional certificate, A photocopy of academic documents, a photocopy of character certificate, and two passport size photographs taken recently is to be submitted.
Field Work in the course
Field work is mandatory in BSW. The students are expected to undergo a minimum of 10 hours to 15 hours per week practical field work. The students are evaluated on the basis of their attendance, application of professional skills in the field. Besides these report writing, individual and group conference, rural and urban camp are also included.
Who can apply for BSW?
Students from any stream who have cleared +2(intermediate) or PCL from any recognized board or institution can apply for this course. Students should take part in the entrance exam conducted by the related college. But he or she should have got at least 45% in the intermediate level.
The college itself takes the entrance examination to evaluate the students. The scholarship is also provided by the colleges according to the score and marks obtained and nature and background of the students. The scholarship is provided to those who are very poor and highly dedicated to the study.
Scope of BSW
In the developing countries like Nepal(where people are socially backward), there is a very high scope of this course. So the scope of BSW is good in Nepal. Nowadays students choose abroad as their destiny for the higher studies in social work. Those who wish to go abroad for higher studies will be eligible to get scholarships from renowned universities. There is six field of social work. They are: advocacy, broker, counsellor, mediator, change agent and researcher. And the nation gains the expertise in these six fields of social work. The BSW graduates can get employment in different NGOs/INGOs, academic sector, media sector (radio, television, news agencies), and research institutions. The BSW graduate can do Master of Social Work (MSW) for further study. The minimum salary of a social worker will be as much as Rs. 8.000/- to Rs. 80000/-. Talking about the salary on abroad a Social Worker (BSW) earns an average salary of $38,038 per year. Their salary range is $25,892 to $52,655 per year. A firm they are working may provide them bonus which adds some amount of money on the salary.
